stupid and illegitimate RBC ruling

Democrats should and will regret the stupidity and illegitimacy of RBC ruling.
Expect this will be discussed everywhere, start here:
http://blogs.abcnews.com/thisweek/2008/0 5/coming-up-gibbs.html
GOPs think that RBC gave huge talking points to McCain.

Stupid part:
50% cut is like cutting of the baby in half, which Solomon will object; but RBC people not as wise as Solomon, see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judgment_of _Solomon

Illegitimate part:
RBC has no right to assign uncommitted votes to the guy who was not even on the ballot;
and RBC has no right to steal 4 delegates from Hillary and give it to the guy who was not even  on the ballot.
In total, they decrease - illegitimately - Hillary's count of pledged delegates by 2 and
they increase illegitimately - Obama's  count of pledged delegates by 29.5. If you will take
1722-1586 count from
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/ 2008/president/democratic_delegate_count .html
you have to correct it this way:
1692.5-1588

Re: stupid and illegitimate RBC ruling (none / 0)

Except that a 50% cut was what was proscribed by DNC bylaws for jumping the line. While it is not a perfect arrangement, it is the one which stands the best chance of being accepted by the vast majority of the party.

I'm so glad this issue's gone. Not even Clinton will talk about it from this point on.

Re: stupid and illegitimate RBC ruling (2.00 / 2)

Oh yes, she will. She already said this:
"The Committee awarded to Senator Obama not only the delegates won by Uncommitted, but four of the delegates won by Senator Clinton. This decision violates the bedrock principles of our democracy and our Party"

This is what the Michigan Democratic party's compromise position. Go complain to them if you don't like it.

Re: stupid and illegitimate RBC ruling (2.00 / 2)

MI party cannot override MI voters. theyir proposal was illegitimate too. 40% were uncommitted and Obama was NOT on ballot and you canot take delegates from the winner and give it to person who was not on ballot. If you do that, you are behave as a illegitimate gangster - it is what RBC did.

Re: stupid and illegitimate RBC ruling (none / 0)

In Florida- The Rules and By Laws Committee gave John Edwards who dropped out the race and endorsed Obama (13 Delegates which Edwards received in Florida). They could have given Obama all of the 13 Delegates Edwards Recieved in Florida. Better yet they could have tooken away 6 Delegates from Clinton and give them to Obama.
Hillary gets 99 Pledge Delegates in Florida. Obama gets 86 Pledge Delegates in Florida.

In Michigan which had their primaries before South Carolina. Edwards was still a candidate but the RBC did not recognized Edwards as the candidate. Based on Exit Polls. Obama got 75% of the Uncommited Votes in Michigan and Edwards got 25% of the Uncommited votes. Obama could have gotten 40 Delegates in Michigan. Edwards could have gotten 15 Delegates in Michigan.

Re: stupid and illegitimate RBC ruling (none / 0)

  • exit polls are not part of democratic process.
  • obama was not on ballot - means RBC are very wrong

Re: stupid and illegitimate RBC ruling (none / 0)

Even if we given Obama none of the uncommited Delegates in Michigan and Hillary half of the 73 Pledge Delegates she earned in Michigan.

Obama would still be ahead of Hillary in the Pledge Delegate count.

The Edwards delegates are most likely gonna go towards Obama as well as those Uncommited Pledge Delegates in Michigan.

The Rules of By Law Committe who were supporting either Hillary or Obama should have recused themselves due to the issue of conflict of interest. and better yet we should give those Delegates who are supporting Obama 3/4 of a full vote.

Re: stupid and illegitimate RBC ruling (none / 0)

I am just giving my opinion. which I am entitled to on this sight.
Had I been i member of the rules and bylaws committee. I would have reinstated all of the Delegates in Florida and Michigan. Given Obama all of the Uncommited Delegates in Michigan and All of the Edwards Delegates in Florida.

Not really - they cut their delegation in half as well.   No off you go back to troll land.

They should have gone 50/50 (none / 0)

and invalidated the contest. 0/0 would have been even better.

Unfortunately, all this "count the vote" hoopla had to be dealt with.

Re: stupid and illegitimate RBC ruling (none / 0)

Nobody took anything from Clinton.

She didn't win any delegates, as MI had all its delegates stripped.

She's lucky she got anything back at all.

Obama in November.

You forgot the 30,000 Obama write-ins (none / 0)

That's 5% of the vote right there.  Around 6 delegates worth if you do the math.

You can do math, right?

Or does "fair reflection" mean only counting the votes you want to count in a proscribed election?
